Grafton, Liverpool City Centre.

A fantastic project involving the retention of a classic, locally famous façade on what was previously a nightclub called ‘The Grafton Rooms’. We were tasked with the re-development of this site, introducing 90 affordable dwellings on a prominent road leading to the heart of Liverpool’s City Centre. The main elevation presents a significant opportunity for an empty infill site situated between Derby Court apartments and The Olympia. The design rationale for the proposed massing is influenced by the presence of these two existing buildings, with the proposal acting as a transitional element between them. The six-story structure gradually steps down from The Olympia, further reducing to four stories, seamlessly aligning with the four-story configuration of the Derby Court Apartments. Vertical elements have been introduced to align with the decorative features below, establishing a rhythmic pattern of solid and void. The objective was to strike a balance between preserving existing elements and introducing a sense of boldness in the resulting building.
